What is the K Club?

The Kindergarten Club is an alternative to this year’s public school option. The K Club offers all the learning of daily kindergarten within the Pod model. Children come to school every day from 9:00-3:00. Teachers introduce reading, writing, math, science, social studies, and the arts while always valuing the magic of play. Your child’s pod becomes part of your family’s social bubble.

Is this the same as Kindergarten?

Yes and no. We think it’s better. Kids are natural learners and kindergarten is the time to introduce academics in a new way. Social connections, warm relationships, and play are the best paths to learning. Rather than relying on statewide mandates, we will follow the research and best practices to create something even better.

I don’t want to lose my spot at my public school?

The kids club is designed for students who plan to return to their regular school as soon as it is safe to do do. We will work with families to support dual enrollment if that is your preference. Your child is welcome to participate in their classroom distance learning if desired, and we are happy to build a relationship with your child’s school. Of course, the in-person hands-on activities at the K-Club are going to be attractive and engaging. If schools remained closed this year, your child will enter 1st grade along with their peers.

Where is the K Club located?

We are at the Rockridge Community Center. The center was started last year as a project of Rockridge Little School. There is a bright sunny yard, open airy classrooms, and a huge open space with tables and chairs, a full kitchen, piano, Ping-Pong table, and more. Did anyone say cooking projects?

Why is the K Club open when grammar schools are not?

The K-Club can more easily maintain small, stable groups. There are fewer adults. Young children are less likely to transmit and contract COVID. Reported COVID outbreaks in settings like this that have taken recommended COVID precautions have been low. We are able to maintain robust cleaning/disinfecting procedures. We are licensed by Community Care Licensing and do not fall under elementary school regulations. (In fact, the health department encourages this model.)
